Pavina Double Wall Thermo Glasses

Bodum, Inc., a subsidiary of Peter Bodum AS, develops a variety of bold kitchenware and tabletop products, and focuses on fresh, functional designs that are also affordable.

Bodum’s Pavina Double Wall Glasses were honored with the Housewares Design Award in the Tableware & Accessories category, which also included the company’s Nissen Acrylic Grinders and Canteen Double Wall Glasses.

The company, which designs products in the coffee, tea, cookware, cutlery, drinkware and serveware categories, only recently started creating more products in the tabletop category for the U.S. market.

“Tabletop is a new category for us. We had three out of five products in the tabletop category [for the Housewares Design Awards],” said Nils Göran Lindblad, president of Bodum, Inc. “It’s very encouraging.”

Garnering many international awards and included in Fortune Magazine’s 2004 “Best 25 Products of the year,” Bodum’s Double Wall Glass collection is made of heat-resistant Borosilicate glass, which weighs less than traditional glassware. The Double Wall Glass line offers an insulating quality: drinks stay cold or warm in the glasses for a longer period of time and there’s no condensation.

In addition, Borosilicate glass won’t get gray from the dishwasher or the acids in wine.

The mouth-blown glasses, which are available in small, extra-small, medium, large and extra-large sizes, can be used for everything from espresso and tea to beer and wine, and feature easy-to-hold shapes.

The Pavina assortment is enhanced by subtle curves and modern flair. The line also includes Canteen, Assam, Titlis, Pilatus and Rigi designs.

According to Jeff Malkasian, vp/sales at Bodum, the Double Wall Glass collection is distinguished by its thermal properties. “It incorporates Borosilicate into everyday glass,” Malkasian commented. “We’re educating consumers on the properties of Borosilicate glass. It’s lightweight, scratch resistant and dishwasher safe. It’s a big deal in everyday glassware.”

Because the glasses won’t sweat, consumers can place them on tables and counters without worrying about damaging the surface. “You never have to worry about a coaster— the glass doesn’t sweat,” Malkasian said.

The company has had a fantastic reaction to the glasses at retail, noted Malkasian.

When creating new product lines, Bodum’s team is inspired by Jorgen Bodum, who oversees all product concept, development and production, said Malkasian. “[Jorgen] Bodum sees a trend and [looks into] how it can be implemented. He never stops with one thing,” he said. “He’s already working on the next thing.”

Malkasian said Jorgen Bodum’s ideologies about design help drive the company’s design team.

“[Jorgen] Bodum’s passion about designs that are functional and affordable drives the Bodum design group and our focus on being ahead of the curve,” he commented.
