Designer Series Oscillating Ceramic Heater

Lasko Product’s Designer Series Oscillating Ceramic Heater was awarded top honors in the Home Environment Electrics category at the 2007 Housewares Design Awards.

Home environment suppliers overall have been leveraging trends in other housewares categories to cater to consumers seeking products that complement their home’s décor or that, in this iPod age, are considered “cool” in a high-tech sort of way.

Among the key design trends stemming from this are the popular silver metallic/black look and the expansion of the tower configuration from the air cleaner segment into most other home environment categories. Wood tones also have shown up on the market, in contrast to the popularity of metal finishes. Some suppliers are even taking a page from trends in kitchen electrics, offering products that have a retro-style look to them.

There is one school of thought that believes that providing home environment products with a strong design emphasis could help categories partly transcend the seasonality of the business. A consumer, for example, may be tempted to buy a fashionable heater that perfectly matches their living-room décor even if it is not in the midst of the hottest summer on record.

The Lasko Designer Series Oscillating Ceramic Heater has a decorative metal scrollwork base designed to blend with surrounding decors. With its curved, contoured tower-like shape and champagne-colored finish, it is quite an original design in the home environment category, and may spark ample interest in that shape and color from competitors.

The company’s focus on aesthetic design has not muted the feature-rich product development. Indeed, technology and utility play large roles in the home environment category, with the primary focuses on making products easier to use, more efficient and more economically friendly for the user in the face of inflation, such as rising fuel prices, for example.

Lasko’s Oscillating Ceramic Heater features two quiet comfort settings plus an auto setting. The heater is designed to provide full-room coverage.

It has two comfort settings: 1,500 watts/5,118 BTUs; and 900 watts/3,070 BTUs. In keeping with the rising fuel prices of the past few years, the company also is focusing on efficiency: the heater uses 1.5 Kilowatts per hour on the 1,500-watt setting and .9 Kilowatts per hour on the 900-watt setting.

Other features include electronic touch-control operation, oscillation for full-room coverage, adjustable thermostat, seven-hour timer, built-in ceramic safety features, and automatic overheat protection.
