Jura IMPRESSA J9 One Touch TFT

The Jura Impressa J9 One Touch TFT is the 2012 Housewares Design Awards Best in Category winner in the Countertop Cooking & Beverage Appliance category, the second time Jura has won such an honor. In 2009, the company won Best in Category honors for its Jura Ena 5 Automatic Coffee Center, a precursor to this year's winner.

The new J9 One Touch TFT is the company's flagship model and is designed to allow consumers to use it right out of the box. The unit's simplicity and its ability to walk consumers step-by-step through the beverage preparation process without any prior experience or specialized knowledge is one of the product's most noteworthy attributes.

"This is a one-touch automatic beverage center that gives you a choice of 11, 12 beverages, all with the turn of a wheel or touch of a button," said David Shull, vp/marketing at Jura Capresso.

To operate, consumers simply turn the rotary dial to choose their desired specialty coffee beverage from a digital display, press the button, and then watch as the unit prepares the beverage. To prevent consumers from becoming impatient or not realizing that the unit is quietly performing one of its functions, such as grinding beans or steaming milk, the display includes a progress bar as well as text indicators that allow users to view the progress of their beverage.

The other unique attribute of the machine is its ability to prepare complex, multi-process specialty coffee beverages from latte macchiato to ristretto without moving the cup. The machine sequences and prepares the individual components of each beverage delivering them through the same spout in the exact amount and at the appropriate time to provide coffeehouse quality beverages at home.

The J9 is the first model in the Jura line to feature a TFT color display. The 3.5-inch-square display combines graphics and text to show the type of beverage, number of ounces, coffee strength and amount of milk. Consumers can use the TFT display to view options and select their choice, then press the button to receive a cup of crema coffee, espresso, latte cappuccino or latte macchiato in less than 60 seconds.

The user can also personalize the look of the machine by selecting wallpaper for the TFT display with choices that include red coffee berry, blue sky with clouds, roasted coffee beans, white coffee flower, green leaves, white background, tan background and green coffee berry designs. The display guides the user through all menus and programming with simple text and illustrations.
