Jura ENA Micro 9 One Touch Cappuccino Machine

The Jura ENA Micro 9 One Touch Cappuccino Machine is the 2013 Housewares Design Awards Best in Category winner in the Countertop Cooking & Beverage Appliances category, the second consecutive win for the company and its third win since the competition began in 2003. The Jura Impressa J9 One Touch TFT was a 2012 Housewares Design Award Best in Category winner. And in 2009, the company won Best in Category honors for its Jura Ena 5 Automatic Coffee Center, a precursor in some ways to this year’s winning machine.

This year’s winner, the ENA Micro 9, is billed as the world’s smallest one-touch automatic cappuccino machine, and still offers a range of automatic drink options that include cappuccinos, latte macchiato, crema coffee or espresso at the touch of one button, without moving the cup.

“This machine is for the customer that really wants to save countertop space,” said David Shull, senior vp/marketing at Jura Capresso. “A lot of what went into the design, which is the smallest on the market today in automatic coffee centers, was maintaining the functionality of the machine and keeping it affordable, while meeting the consumer’s coffee needs.”

While measuring just 9 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep and 12.7 inches high, the ENA Micro 9 offers advanced features, including a newly developed micro brewing unit, One Touch icon buttons for latte macchiato, cappuccino, espresso and coffee and a rotary switch for beverage customization.

The ENA Micro 9 is also the first model in the new Jura Micro collection to feature Jura’s fine foam technology, for preparation of milk foam with a fine, feather-like consistency, according to the company. The height adjustable dual spout accommodates cups from 2 inches to about 5.5 inches tall, and separate coffee and milk pipes eliminate the possibility of cross contamination.

Despite its diminutive size, the unit offers many of the features found on full-size machines, including the ability to adjust coffee strength, amount of water and brewing temperature, an option to brew from ground coffee instead of freshly ground beans and a conical burr grinder. But it also offers more subtle details, such as a bean container with an aroma preservation cover to keep beans fresher longer as well as an energy saving mode that activates after five minutes, and completely shuts off after two hours.
