Electrolux Precision Brushroll Clean
The Electrolux Precision Brushroll Clean is the 2013 Housewares Design Awards Best in Category winner in the Floor Care & Cleaning Appliances category, the second consecutive win for the company. The Electrolux Nimble was last year’s Best in Category winner, also for the Floor Care & Cleaning Appliances Category.
The Brushroll Clean, like the Nimble before it, is the result of a consumer-insight focused product development process; one that looks to identify not only broad points of consumer dissatisfaction with vacuuming, but also centers more narrowly on each user interaction with the process, and product. It is that kind of detailed effort that led to this year’s winning design. Electrolux developed Brushroll Clean Technology knowing that a tangled brushroll can decrease a vacuum’s cleaning performance over time. It is also a common cause of repair and even replacement by dissatisfied and often unknowing consumers.
The unique brushroll cleaning system is designed to remove tangled hair from the vacuum’s brushroll and deposit it into the dust cup. To activate, users press the brushroll clean foot pedal for a few seconds while the vacuum is on, and the tangled hair is whisked from the brushroll and deposited into the dust cup, eliminating consumers’ often unpleasant chore of cleaning the brushroll by hand.
The Brushroll Clean also features a sealed HEPA filtration system that is said to capture 99.97% of dust, allergens and small particles, unlike many vacuums that use a HEPA filter but allow dust to escape around the filter and through cracks in the machine. The unit utilizes a multi-cyclonic separation system, which separates dirt from the air before it reaches the filter, keeping the filter clean and allowing the vacuum to retain maximum air flow, “for cleaning power that never loses suction,” according to the company.
The Brushroll Clean is also designed to deliver multi-functional cleaning performance with features that include a one-touch, quick-release wand and deluxe stretch hose that combine to give consumers 12 feet of extended reach for cleaning both high and low. The unit also has Electrolux’s proprietary 3-in-1 “Versatool” attachment derived from the company’s consumer cleaning insight efforts. The unique tool is designed to make cleaning stairs easier by locking into multiple cleaning positions without any additional effort by the user. The “Versatool” fits to the vacuum’s wand while folding to reach into crevices, expanding to fit stair steps and opening flat for upholstery.
