Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance LED Light Bulb Starter Kit

Lighting in the home is largely utilitarian, but the Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance LED Starter Kit by Signify is designed to offer consumers something more, according to the company.

The recipient of the second annual Smart Home Award at the 2019 Housewares Design Awards, the starter kit is designed to allow consumers to set their lights to mimic their presence, offering the appearance that people are home when the house is empty.

In addition, the kit also allows for better control of lighting when the user is at home. Differing tones can be set based on one’s mood and the lights can also be synced with movies, music and games or to match a favorite sports team’s colors while watching the game.

The kit is offered with a bridge, which is said by the company to be the heart of the system. It allows for the app-based control of the Hue lights and can support up to 50 light points and 12 Hue accessories. It comes with an Ethernet cable, which plugs into an Internet router and a power cord.

Also included are four standard-size A19 LED light bulbs capable of emitting 16 million colors or 50,000 shades of white light. The bulbs have an estimated lifetime of 25,000 hours, are 800 lumens and are Energy-Star certified.

The lighting system can also be voice controlled using Amazon Alexa, Siri with Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant or Microsoft Cortana. The system is also able to connect with other home automation systems such as IFTTT, Nest, Samsung SmartThings, Vivint Smart Home and Xfinity Home.
